Cheddington, Buckinghamshire, has won the People category for the East England region of the 2008 Calor Village of the Year® award.
With a population of 1,700, the Buckinghamshire village of Cheddington is situated 10 miles to the east of Aylesbury.
This strong, vibrant community is led by a hard working Parish Council and Residents’ Association aided by residents who are always ready to help each other and take on village projects.
Blessed with a well managed legacy, the village has the confidence to take on ambitious projects.
Cheddington Residents’ Association represents the interests of all villagers, fostering good public relations and encouraging social activities that take place in conjunction with other organisations in the local area.
The Youth Council works with the Parish Council to cater for the younger generation, who are a valued part of the community and are made to feel so. The village’s Youth4Youth scheme encourages young residents to manage themselves and deal direct with their peers if they are causing trouble.
The older generation too is needed and respected. There are plenty of activities for all age groups and newcomers will soon find themselves drawn into village life and taking a personal role in the community if they so wish.
A successful village newsletter keeps residents abreast of current issues and aware of upcoming events as well as providing useful advertising for local trades and services.
Every two years the Residents’ Association also produces a village guide which summarises useful contact information that is relevant to villagers.
