Halstock Shines for Business
Community triumphs in village competition
Villagers in Halstock, Dorset are celebrating after it’s been revealed that their community has won through in the Business category of the Calor Village of the Year for England 2009/10 regional heats.
Halstock fought off competition from seven other villages to win the category, all of which had been nominated to represent their counties in this prestigious event. Its success follows a recent judging visit during which judges were shown just what Halstock has to offer, with the community being showcased across a total of four categories: Community – a better place to live, Business – a better place to work, Sustainability – a better future, and Communications – being in contact.
As the regional category winner for Business, the village now has a few weeks to wait before finding out if it has triumphed at national level – as the five regional judging teams (covering North, South, East, West and Central England) come together to debate which of the regional Business category winners deserves the £500 national award.
The national category award for Business is being contested by Crosthwaite, Cumbria; Great Bardfield, Essex; Coombe Bissett, Wiltshire; and Bonsall, Derbyshire along with Halstock.
Calor Village of the Year manager Holly Sims comments: “Congratulations to Halstock – our regional Business winner for South England. I’m sure the community will be on tenterhooks over the next few weeks before the national category winners are revealed. We very much look forward to hearing the outcome and wish them the best of luck.”
Details of the national winners will be revealed on 24 November.
