Allendale in Northumberland is the perfect example of a community that has pulled together, in its entirity, to overcome difficult times.
The village has survived adversity, in the form of the dreaded Foot and Mouth disease, to become stronger than ever.
Allendale is a village that cares about each and every one of its residents. There is a local community charity which initiates and supports many of the projects in the village - support both in terms of lending a hand and raising substantial amounts of money to make them possible.
A village fair also provides a chance for young and old to come together.
Throughout the year, all generations of Allendale villagers are kept busy with a rich and varied social calendar. The village hall is a well-used focal point for much of the activity, with all kinds of organisations and groups meeting on a regular basis. The activity helps the community to buzz with a positive and uplifting outlook.
Villagers are kept well informed of the latest goings on, via attractive and accessible village websites. Upon their visit, the independent Calor Village of the Year judging team was impressed by the provision of ICT facilities, which are available for the use of the whole community. As you come to expect from such a friendly and helpful place, assistance with using the technology is willingly given if and when it is required.
