The 'Building Community Life' Booklet', produced by Calor with the support of Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs), encourages villages throughout England to become "vibrant and self-sustaining communities." The booklet features details about the villages that won prizes in the Defra sponsored ‘Building Community Life’ category either at county level, or in the Calor Village of the Year® for England competition. The category was sponsored by Defra to encourage the inclusion of all groups and individuals into the fabric of rural community life – building cohesive and mutually supportive communities.

Like many things, evidence of a vibrant, healthy community is easier to spot than define! We produced this booklet with Defra in order to spread the good work that villages throughout England are already carrying out, in the hope that as many communities as possible can benefit from it.
