Search begins for the 2006 Surrey Village of the Year
All villages in Surrey are being called upon to take part in The 2006 Surrey Village of the Year competition which has just been launched. Invitations to enter are being sent to Parish Councils, Village Hall Committees, community groups and village shops throughout the county. The competition, organised by Surrey Community Action and sponsored by Calor and Defra, looks for caring, vibrant village communities, which take pride in their sense of community and encourage local initiatives that enhance the quality of life for residents. All villages in Kent with a population of 5,000 and under are being called upon to take part in the 2006 Kent Village of the Year competition which is just getting underway. The competition is organised by Action with Communities in Rural Kent and sponsored by Calor, with additional support from BBC Radio Kent, Kent Men of Trees, Kent Community Foundation, Court Royal Ltd and CPRE. Judges look for well-balanced, pro-active, caring communities which, irrespective of size, have made the best of local opportunities to maintain and enhance the quality of life for all residents.More >>

Take the Opportunity to Celebrate your Community
If you live in a thriving, active and inclusive village or hamlet and you want a chance to celebrate your community you should consider entering the 2006 Calor Oxfordshire Villages of the Year competition, which is just getting underway. All villages are eligible to enter the Oxfordshire Villages of the Year competition and entries are invited from any community organisation. Prizes will be on offer to the winning villages, including £250 from Oxfordshire Rural Housing Partnership, and £500 prize money specifically for the Building Community Life category, which has been made available thanks to continued competition support from Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) at both county and national level. Where is the Top Village of 2006?
The search for the Calor Village of the Year® 2006 will begin in Cambridgeshire next month. Representatives from villages thinking of entering the competition are being invited to an informal session at Over Community Centre on February 7th at 6.15pm. They will be able to find out what entry involves, hear from participants in previous years’ competitions, question the judges and stewards about what happens during the course of the competition and find out what awards are at stake. Cash prizes are on offer to the winning communities in the competition, including £500 prize money for the winner of the Building Community Life category, which has been made available thanks to continued competition support from Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) at both county and national level.
