Thirty Communities Compete for County Competitions
A total of 30 communities are in line for prizes in the 2007 Northern Lincolnshire Best Kept Village and Small Towns competition, organised on behalf of Northern Lincolnshire CPRE (Campaign to Protect Rural England), and now wait in anticipation for first round judging visits which are due to take place at the end of June.
Time is running out for proud communities that wish to enter the 2007 Northern Lincolnshire Best Kept Village and Small Towns competition, with the deadline for entries approaching on May 25.
The competition is sponsored by Calor, the UK’s leading supplier of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and also this year for the first time by the Mayflower Wood community project (www.mayflowerwood.co.uk/friends.htm).There is also additional support from local sponsors Fenland Leisure, Oaklands Nurseries and Stephen Smith’s Garden Centre. Competing communities are as follows –
North Lincolnshire: Alkborough, Appleby, Belton, Burton upon Stather, Elsham, Flixborough, Goxhill, Haxey, Hibaldstow, Keadby with Althorpe, Messingham, New Holland, Redbourne, Roxby cum Risby, Saxby all Saints, Scawby, Ulceby, West Butterwick, Whitton, Winterton, Worlaby, Wrawby, Barton upon Humber, Brigg and Broughton
NE Lincolnshire: Ashby cum Fenby, Barnoldby Le Beck, Humberston, Irby upon Humber and Waltham
Following the June judging visits, selected communities will be judged further during August. Prizes will then be awarded to winners in the Small Villages, Large Villages, Small Towns and Past Winners categories, with additional prizes for the Best Playground, Best Churchyard and Best Community Planting.
Competition organiser, Sue Franks commented: “First indications are that we have some very strong contenders competing this year, so we’re really looking forward to seeing how they fare during the judging process. Whether they go on to win prizes or not, they’ve all done very well and I would like to thank the communities for their hard work and commitment in putting together their entries.”
