Broughton-in-Furness - Northern Region
Broughton in Furness is an attractive market town situated on the south -western fringes of the Lake District.
The village provides its inhabitants with a vast range of clubs and activities.
Activities include: the Broughton Drama Group Pantomime, Young Farmers, dance classes for all ages, Spanish classes, to name but a few. As well as these, the village is very proud of its community events such as the annual Charter Day, beer festival and Spring Bank Holiday Fair.
For younger members of the community there is an active youth club with trained leaders, offering a range of activities and sports. Plans have also been made to initiate a holiday activity scheme where children will be able to take park in theatre and circus workshops.
The older generations are equally catered for, with access to keep fit classes, bowling, bingo and modern dance workshops including jive! Learning courses, which include computer studies and archaeology, are also popular with the over 50s.
Despite the crippling effects of Foot and Mouth Disease, business in Broughton is also flourishing. Although still largely agriculturally based, the village is also home to a busy craft chop, bakery, architect, and a mountain centre that has been transformed into a modern retail outlet for outdoor activities.
