Appleby Magna - Central Region

Appleby Magna, situated near Tamworth in Leicestershire, has a vibrant and active community. This is evident from the many and varied activities available and the voluntary help freely given to make them successful.

The village has a population of just over 1000 who have access to 29 clubs and organisations, ranging from traditional uniformed youth movements and WI, to the Welcome Club and groups such as the Alms House Charity which provides housing for the needy. The village is also very proud of its annual events, including a village spring clean, school fun day, garden parties and an annual conker match.

Appleby also has a diverse range of local businesses such as patchwork quilt making, lace making and a cattery. In addition to these, the village has its own online centre. Equipped with 10 computers, the centre provides residents with access to internet facilities and computer training courses.

Community activities in Appleby see inhabitants of all ages come together. For example, young and old alike are involved in the regular bulb and tree planting in the village. Plans to form a Heritage Centre will also unite the ages, as local children will undertake oral history with older generations to find out about life in the village throughout the years.
