How to Enter

The Calor Village of the Year® Northern Ireland competition assesses communities on FIVE aspects of rural village life - namely Building Community Life, Young People, Older People, Business and Environment. More information can be found in the categories section.

Although there are five individual category winners, only those villages that enter a minimum of three categories can be considered as an overall winner for the Calor Village of the Year® Small Community or Calor Village of the Year® Large Community awards.

The Small Community award is open to any village or rural community with a population of 1,000 or less; the Large Community award is open to any village or rural community with a population between 1,001 and 4,500.  To be eligible for consideration your community must enter a minimum of three categories.

Entries are made by completing the Calor Village of the Year entry form, which is available to download from this site, plus a written page of less than 500 words, telling us: ‘What makes your village a special place?' Both items must be returned by 1st July 2011 for the entry to be considered.
