The County Antrim village of Broughshane has been named the 2007 Calor Village of the Year® for Northern Ireland.

Broughshane fought off competition from 16 other villages to land the title - and a prize of £5,000.

Search for Calor Village of the Year®2008 launched in Northern Ireland

Nomin at ions are being invited from villages across Northern Ireland for this year's Calor Village of the Year Competition, run in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Rural Development Council ( RDC ).

Image of boy sitting on father's shouldersIt follows the huge success of last year's inaugural Calor Village of the Year Competition which saw 36 villages vie to be crowned overall winner, a prize eventually won by Broughshane in Co Antrim. Calor hopes to encourage even more villages to take part this year.

 

The competition aims to reward enterprising and caring rural communities with popul at ions of 4,500 or under. Category winners will receive £1,000 and the overall winning village will be presented with a cheque for £5,000 and the prestigious title of 2008 Calor Village of the Year .

Participating in the competition strengthens the bonds of village life, and helps your community realise what has already been achieved.

So if your village is vibrant, enterprising and caring, and makes the most of local opportunities, it is the competition for you.
