The award winning village of Kingsand Cawsand welcomed TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall for a tour of the community on Thursday 10th May.
Kingsand Cawsand represented Cornwall in the 2001 Calor Village of the Year® competition, winning a national Business award. Following this achievement, the village then went on to participate in the national competition once again in 2004, as well as winning a county Building Community Life award in the 2006 Calor Cornwall Village of the Year competition.
Their Royal Highnesses visited the village as part of an ongoing celebration of the benefits of participation in the Calor Village of the Year® competition.
The tour of Kingsand Cawsand covered various areas of the award-winning community, and included the presentation of a plaque to commemorate the visit. During the tour, TRH were introduced to representatives of a number of local businesses, including the village post office, an art gallery and the local public house.
The tour also included meetings with various community groups, many of which were involved in the village’s Calor Village of the Year® entry. Amongst others, Their Royal Highnesses were introduced to representatives of the village history group, RNLI fundraisers and the local neighbourhood watch group. A visit to the villages very popular gig club also formed part of the tour.
Suzanne Weir, Calor Village of the Year® manager, commented: “Once again TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall are showing their support for Calor Village of the Year® by spending time in a community that has enjoyed past success in the competition.
"We are extremely grateful for this and hope that this ongoing support
will continue to encourage villages throughout the country to get involved."
